A local energy provider severed a shallow Virgin Media cable whilst cutting through tarmac with a floor saw, cutting off internet to a number of residents.

This incident goes to show that even the smallest of jobs can result in a cable strike as well as the inconvenience to the public & potential loss of time and money that goes with it.

If you were a business or a resident working from home and your internet services have been disrupted, do you think that the energy provider should have had a proper survey carried out prior to breaking ground, or in this case, tarmac?

Even a simple, half day marking out survey or Service Clearance (as demonstrated below) would have been sufficient and would have most probably cost less than the repair of the cable and the hidden add-on costs that accompany it.
