A Damaged Fibre Optic Cable has knocked out the Departure Boards at Gatwick Airport leaving passengers to refer to white boards for boarding and departure gate information.

According to the BBC, Vodafone provides the service, and said a damaged fibre cable was to blame.

This has caused a number of passengers to miss their flights and is causing chaos for staff and passengers. 

Fibre Optic cables do not tend to carry a radio frequency signal, however their routes can be traced using a threader, as shown on the below drawing extract:
