In February 2007 Geotec Surveys were commissioned by Pell Frischmann Consultants Ltd. to carry out a full underground mapping survey on behalf of English Heritage. The site in Northampton had previously been used as a warehouse and car repair garage and was disused at the time of the survey.

Once the exact survey requirements were established, it was agreed to carry out this underground mapping survey over a period of two days on site, with the key objectives being to locate and map as accurately as possible all buried services and any buried fuel tanks within the site boundaries.

Using a ground penetrating radar system most suitable for the ground surface within the site combined with the latest radio-frequency detection equipment, the survey team set about their task. Backed up with cover lifting, threading, induction, the use of sondes and dyes as well as drawing on any available statutory information and local site knowledge, all available data from the site was collected to be returned to our offices for evaluation and interpretation.

Having also ascertained suitable topographical data from the site visit, all information was processed in Geotec's offices and detailed AutoCAD drawings were produced and returned to the client providing a detailed map of all detected sub-surface utilities and features.
