Geotec and Groundwise team up for Desktop Mapping launch 4/2/2008

Two of Britain’s leading companies in utility surveying have joined forces to launch a new Desktop Mapping service which will make the collation and presentation of utility ‘stats’ much easier to achieve.

The new service, Desktop Mapping, has been devised by Geotec Surveys, leaders in underground mapping, and Groundwise, which specialises in the sourcing and collation of all utility statistics. It will help construction clients, their consultants and partners meet their obligations for due diligence under the current CDM regulations with speed, simplicity and provide a clear overview on one scale drawing. It also offers a vital benchmark before a full underground survey is commissioned.

When faced with construction proposals, the first step for most project planners is to ask for a set of utility 'stats' from any utility provider which may have apparatus in that location. Geotec's Desktop Mapping service collates all these 'stats' onto a single drawing, overlaying them, as detailed in the record suppliers' positions and sizes, onto either a topographical survey or an OS tile background.

This gives all parties to the project a clear view through the masses of confusing data. John Hunt, Geotec’s UK sales manager, says, "For qualified consulting engineers, obtaining utility information is a time-consuming, mundane job. Our new service generates faster, more accurate and more complete information, which is invaluable for project planning and a good guide to on-site practice."
